East Africa - Where Hunger Leads
Famine in East Africa, with its profound toll on children, continues to shape the lives of countless families. This series presents a selection of photographs from South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, and Madagascar, each image capturing the quiet resilience of communities enduring the hardships of hunger and displacement. For over a decade, photographer Reto Albertalli has collaborated with UNICEF to document the human cost of conflict and poverty, traveling across the globe to bring these stories to light.
This series does not dwell on the extremes of suffering, but instead highlights the unspoken moments of survival: the simple, often overlooked scenes that unfold daily in the midst of crisis. Each photograph offers a window into quiet determination, a silent strength that embodies the will to live and the hope for a better future.
